If you’ve just had a new asphalt surface installed, you might be nervous about prematurely damaging it and wondering what to do post-paving and how to maintain your newly paved parking lot or driveway.
It takes about two years for an asphalt to be fully cured but it can be driven on in just one to two weeks, depending on temperature.
To ensure the longevity of your quality asphalt pavement, follow these DO’s and DONT’s.
DO’s
- Wait for at least 24 hours before you park your vehicle.
- Backfill the edges with topsoil and regrow the letrozole femara grass to avoid breaking of the edges and to prevent water from undermining.
- Asphalt can sometimes soften in hot temperature. Water it down with a garden hose in order to temporarily harden it during extremely hot weather. Soapsuds may appear but don’t be alarmed because this is a reaction between the diesel fuel in the asphalt and the Chlorine in water.
- Use materials to distribute weight by avoiding to park in the same spots every time.
DONT’s
- Heavy vehicles over 6000 pounds can cause damage on your asphalt surface.
- Don’t walk with high-heeled shoes and be careful of other sharp objects such as bicycle kickstands, trailer hitches, motorcycle kickstands and lawn furniture. These objects may cause dents, holes and depressions when left on a hot day.
- The edge of your driveway is the weakest part due to lack of structural strength. Don’t drive on the edge as it can cause cracking.
- Do not drive too fast on your asphalt driveway.
- Do not turn your steering wheel when your car is not moving.
