process of installation.
Step # 1: Removal of existing surface
The first step in the installation process is the demolition of the existing surface. There
surface can be concrete, asphalt or pavers. Before the demolition, debris is removed
from the surface. Old asphalt and concrete may be recycled.
Step # 2: Preparation for water drainage
In every pavement, water drainage is a crucial factor in determining the lifespan of the
pavement. Poor water drainage may cause pavement to easily deteriorate from standing water.
Step # 3: Sub-Base Layer
The sub-base layer provides a stable surface for the new pavement. It also prevents damages
from freezing and thawing.
Step # 4: Binder Layer
After successfully laying sufficient sub-base layer, a binder layer should be next. This is a highly
durable layer, similar with a new asphalt surface.
Step # 5: New Asphalt Layer
After installing the supportive layers, the final layer of new asphalt is then laid on the surface,
creating a smooth and clean finish. The fresh layer of asphalt will give any pavement good
aesthetic appearance with its jet black color.
However, do note that the butt joints or the areas where the old asphalt meet the new asphalt
should not be noticeable.
Step # 6: Final Roll
Once all the layers have settled, a roller truck finally smoothens the new pavement surface. This
is a vital final step to ensure that no bumps are showing on the new asphalt pavement.
